【学术报告】Human Microbiome: Metabolite Production and Implications for Host Health

报告人简介:

Paul Ross graduated from UCC with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Microbiology, and a Ph.D. in Microbiology. Following postdoctoral research and an Assistant Professorship at Wake Forest University, NC, he moved to Teagasc’sMoorepark Food Research Centre to lead the Food Biotechnology programme, which encompasses aspects ranging from gut flora to novel antimicrobials, including bacteriocins and bacteriophage.  Until recently he was Head of Food Research at Teagascand  Adjunct Professor at UCC. Paul is now Head of College of Science Engineering & Food Science at UCC and is a Principal Investigator in the APC’s Microbes to Molecules Research Spoke and the Food Health Ireland research centre. He was awarded a D.Sc. in 2009 based on published work and received the William C. Haines Dairy Science in 2007 and the Enterprise Ireland Commercialization award in 2008.

 

Food and Health Research particularly:

l  Antimicrobials and anti-infectives (applied and fundamental aspects)

l  Gut flora and gut health (how food programmes – human health – including probiotics)

l  Bacteriophage (phage therapy and phage hardening)

l  Human, animal and gut pathogens

           

Author on over 400 peer-reviewed papers in addition to sixteen Patents.  Investigator or Co-investigator on grants totalling more than €100 million since 1994.  Graduate supervisor of 55 completed Ph.D’s and 21 M.Sc’s.
